Henry Announces Jobs Partnership

Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry today announced a partnership with Shambaugh & Son L.P. and Fort Wayne UNITED to provide what they call higher-wage employment opportunities. The collaboration will fill fabrication and welding positions with a starting wage of $14/hour.

Succeeding several meetings between Mayor Henry’s administration and Shambaugh, Fort Wayne UNITED agreed to recruit Fort Wayne UNITED participants to fill up to 40 job openings to support recent growth, of Shambaugh & Son, L.P. and meet their need for dependable individuals to work positions at their Fire Protection Fabrication Facility.

New hires will be asked to complete a Fort Wayne UNITED  four-month soft skills and workplace expectations class, taught by Fort Wayne UNITED’s Employment Subcommittee member and the City of Fort Wayne Human Resources Department.

Upon completion,  the employee’s hourly rate would increase to $15 per hour, with more opportunities for wage increases in the future.

“I’m encouraged by this new partnership that’s focused on job creation, relationship-building, and enhancing the quality of life in our community,” said Mayor Henry. “Fort Wayne UNITED and Shambaugh & Son are two respected organizations that are committed to making a positive and lasting difference. Providing livable wages through good employment opportunities positions our City as a leader in wanting individuals and families to be successful and grow.”
