The 91-year-old Nashville House restaurant is closing. The Brown County family dining staple will serve its last meal at the end of the month. In a post on Facebook, Gina Sarah Rogers, daughter of late-owners Andy and Fran Rogers, called the closure "the end of an era and very heartbreaking."
The restaurant is known for its country-style fried chicken and ham meals. Business on the property dates back to the late-1860s when an inn opened. It was acquired in 1927 and a new inn called Nashville House was established. The building burned down 16 years later and the rebuilt Nashville House — the current structure — opened as a restaurant and country store in 1947.
Andy and Fran died within the last two years and Gina said in a Facebook comment under the original post:
We have always been one big family – everybody pitches in to get the job done. My parents were just another part of the Nashville House family (the mom and dad, if you will) – our family, our wonderful employees, past and present, have always been the heart of the Nashville House and we will always remember them and be truly grateful for them. I’ve always pictured carrying on my parents tradition for decades to come, but times change and dreams die.
The last day for the restaurant will be October 28.
