Shelbyville will soon see a new $18 million wellness center to be built by Major Health Partners and the YMCA. Shelbyville City Council approved final funding for the project earlier this month. Other funding was secured from the Shelby County Council and Blue River Community Foundation.

“We have always felt a warm-water pool was an important component to the center,” said Major Health Partners President and CEO Jack Horner. “An indoor warm water pool can be used by individuals of all ages, year-round for both recreation and wellness activities. The pool will provide a quality of life amenity that is currently lacking in our community.”

The facility will be named MHP Health, Wellness and Community Center and will be operated by the Decatur County Family YMCA based in Greensburg. The building will include a natatorium, gymnasium, day care, classrooms, fitness facilities and more. Ground is expected to be broken in the fourth quarter of this year and construction is expected to take 13 months.
