The hands-free law does have one exception. Drivers may hold their cell phones when calling 911.
Governor Eric Holcomb signed the law into effect in March after receiving overwhelming support in both the Indiana House and Senate.
The Indiana Department of Transportation says drivers can use Bluetooth, headset or any other hands-free technology while driving.
Indiana is now the 22nd state to require hands-free use of a cellphone while driving.
