Hancock Health Foundation kicks off PET/CT scanner fundraiser

Greenfield-based Hancock Health is moving to acquire a new PET/CT scanner to improve its diagnostic capabilities.
The health system’s philanthropic arm, Hancock Health Foundation, has announced the kickoff of a $3 million fundraising campaign to fund the new equipment.
In a press release, the foundation said the health system currently uses a mobile scanner that’s only available once per week. That’s not ideal given referrals for diagnostic scans have jumped by 60% over the past three years, according to Hancock Health. Patients often have to travel to Indianapolis or face delays for proper scans.
A new, dedicated machine could detect cancer, heart disease, neurological disorders and more. The foundation also says efficiency would improve with the two-in-one PET and CT scanner as patients could schedule back-to-back scans without needing to come back another day.
“Hancock Health continues to grow as we focus on serving the needs of people who live in our community,” said Julia Compton, a doctor with Hancock Health. “We now treat a wide range of medical conditions and would benefit greatly from having a PET/CT scanner, as it helps our doctors across various specialties make more accurate diagnoses and develop better treatment plans.”
The Hancock Health Foundation is hoping to raise the $3 million over the next three years. The foundation is naming its overall campaign Future in Focus.
