Growing Industry Takes Spotlight at Spring IT Expo

A second annual event in Indianapolis will focus on technology sector jobs, industry connections and innovation. The Spring IT Expo will run Thursday and Friday on the Ivy Tech Community College flagship campus and feature a student challenge, career fair and conference recognizing the school’s 20-year partnership with Cisco Academy. Vice President for Information Technology for Workforce Alignment Matthew Etchison says the event showcases Ivy Tech’s role as an "entry to mid-level IT pipeline" throughout the state.
"Sometimes we forget if you’re a rural factory, or rural warehouse or hospital, it’s oftentimes very difficult to recruit talent from some of the best universities in the country," he said, "so, knowing our students grow up in their communities, they’re committed to our communities, they want to be a part of their communities and continue to stay there, it’s really important to see our role in up-skilling Hoosiers."
Organizers expect some 300 Ivy Tech students, 150 Ivy Tech, Ball State University and Vincennes University instructors and dozens of leaders from the business and IT academy community. More than 45 employers are slated to attend Thursday’s job fair. Other activities at the expo will include workshops and breakout sessions. You can connect to more about the event by clicking here.
