Group Looking to Save Muncie Fieldhouse
A group has organized in Muncie to preserve a sports landmark. The Muncie Fieldhouse Foundation Inc. is attempting to raise $300,000 to fund repairs to the nearly 90-year-old gymnasium.
The money will help shore-up structural issues that the district cannot currently pay for because of issues including years of sagging enrollment. At the July 12 meeting of the Muncie Community School Board, Superintendent Steven Baule said the proposed work is just to make the building structurally sound and other issues, including plumbing and HVAC work, will need to be addressed later.
Baule later told The Star Press that the total cost of repairs would be around $3 million, though an official number is pending a study from an architectural firm. You can learn more about the "Save The Fieldhouse" group by clicking here.
