Ground Broken on Evansville YMCA

The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana has broken ground on its new facility in downtown Evansville. Our partners at WEHT-TV report the two-story, 80,000-square-foot facility is expected to open in August 2019.
The project received $5 million in Regional Cities Initiative funding in November 2016. It is also being funded by through a $5 million capital campaign, which the station reports is nearly complete.
"The future of our YMCA is bright and the diversity in funding sources for this new facility is an indication of the support this community has for the mission of the YMCA," said Derrick Stewart, chief executive officer of the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana. "We look forward to delivering a project that exceeds expectations and helps build a healthier and more vibrant community."
The new building will include a pool, wellness area and multiple group exercise areas.
