The city of Greendale is aiming to open a new 88-room Home2 Suites by Hilton hotel by the end of 2026, marking a $16.8 million investment in the city.
In a news release on Tuesday, Mayor Vince Karsteter highlighted Greendale’s growing year-round attractions and the role of the hotel in meeting the city’s lodging needs.
“With snow skiing at Perfect North Slopes, dirt track racing at Lawrenceburg Speedway, live music at Whiskey City’s Liberty Theater, and increasingly more activities and attractions happening year-round in Greendale and across our county, this new hotel will serve as needed, high-quality lodging for the thousands of people who visit our community every year,” Karsteter said.
The project, which began construction earlier this spring on Flossie Drive, is supported by agreements between the Greendale Redevelopment Commission, Dearborn Community Development Corp. and developer Greendale Hospitality, LLC.
According to the release, a $650,000 economic development grant from the Greendale Redevelopment Commission facilitated the land purchase, and the city expects tax revenue from the project to provide full payback within 10 years. Dearborn County spokesperson Mike Perleberg said the hotel is expected to create approximately 20 new jobs, contributing to local employment growth.
Beyond the hotel’s individual appeal, Dearborn County’s broader tourism economy supports its viability. Attractions such as Perfect North Slopes, Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg, Lawrenceburg Speedway, and the Ohio River Way’s recent National Water Trail designation reflect a growing tourism sector, reinforcing demand for additional lodging options. Greendale’s 2024 Economic Development Strategy also identified expanded hotel offerings as a priority.
“The addition of this new hotel is an asset for our community and a win for our visitors,” said Debbie Smith, executive director of Dearborn County Tourism. “This investment strengthens tourism and supports continued economic development throughout the region.”
The Home2 Suites in Greendale stands as the second Hilton hotel in Dearborn County, the release said, following the 2014 opening of Hilton’s DoubleTree hotel at the Lawrenceburg Event Center.
