Indianapolis-based Early Learning Indiana has awarded more than $200,000 for pre-kindergarten programs in Hammond, Kokomo and Middlebury. The grants will help create nearly 140 permanent seats in the communities through funding from Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc.
Early Learning Indiana says its capacity-building grant efforts have totaled more than $1.5 million statewide since 2015, supporting over 1,300 new seats for Hoosier students.
The most recent round of recipients are Community Preschool and Childcare in Lake County, Kokomo School Corp. in Howard County and Little Saints Preschool and Childcare Ministry in Elkhart County.
Early Learning Indiana Acting Chief Executive Officer Julie Goldsberry says "all Hoosier children deserve the opportunity for the strong start that high-quality early learning provides. These investments will not only improve the overall quality of these programs, they will allow more Hoosier families to access them. We are pleased to offer this support and look forward to the positive impact they will have on future generations of Hoosiers."
