Grants Awarded to Grow Specialty Crop Sector

Subscribe NowThe Indiana State Department of Agriculture has awarded more than $475,000 to seven projects designed to grow the state’s specialty crop sector, funded by USDA’s Specialty Crop Block Grant program. The grants were awarded to non-profit organizations, academic institutions and government agencies on a three-year cycle and will be used for specialty crop research, education and market development.
The crops include fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, and horticulture and nursery crops.

“Indiana has a diverse agricultural industry with dozens of major fruits and vegetables being grown every year,” said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch, Indiana’s Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development in a news release. “We were proud to help support these projects, as they work to enhance the competitiveness of this important sector.”
