Grant to Grow Kokomo Farmers Market
McDougall says farmers markets have ripple effects throughout the state.

Subscribe NowThe Kokomo Downtown Farmers Market has received a $248,000 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture. The money will help increase awareness, accessibility and participation of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program clients at the market.
The market plans to provide extended hours and hire staff to provide outreach and education about farmers markets and nutrition to SNAP and Double Bucks program participants. KDFM says starting in 2017, a local chef will demonstrate how to cook quick and healthy meals using fresh foods.
“This grant changes the game for the market, as it will cover much of our marketing costs over the next three years, freeing up other funds for valuable programming for children and low income families. The grant also provides funding for us to begin a weeknight market when the [City Line] trolley runs, so we’ll be able to provide even more people with access to fresh, local food,” Market Master Adrienne Akers Partlow said.
The Kokomo Downtown Farmers Market concludes its regular season on Saturday with a Fall Harvest Fesitval. The Winter Market will run from November 7 through December 19 inside the Historic Train Depot on North Buckeye Street.
