Grant to Fund Certification Courses in Northeast Indiana

Classes will take place at the Ivy Tech Wabash campus

Economic Development Group of Wabash County says it is using a state grant, along with funding from partner organizations, to offer free certification training courses this spring. The courses will give applicants the chance to earn certifications in computer numeric controlled machining, welding or industrial maintenance.

The organization says the courses are being offered through Ivy Tech Community College Northeast and classes will take place at the Ivy Tech Wabash campus, Huntington Learning Center, Heartland Career Center and Orthopedic Advanced Manufacturing Training Center in Warsaw. Those interested in participating must complete an application, pass a drug screening and be residents of Wabash, Huntington or Kosciusko counties.

"The grant is intended to serve residents of Wabash, Huntington, and Kosciusko counties whom are under-employed, unemployed, or whom lack a certification to get a higher wage job," EDG of Wabash County said in a news release.

The organization received a $250,000 Community Development Block Grant from OCRA in December. An additional $175,000 was provided by agencies, including Northeast Indiana Works, Huntington Economic Development, Kosciusko Economic Development Corp., Workone of Northern Indiana, Wabash County Commissioners and the Wabash County Community Foundation,
