Grant to Boost Valpo Science Research

Valparaiso University has landed a $223,000 grant from the National Science Foundation. The funding will allow the school to purchase high-tech equipment used for analyzing water samples.
The university will purchase an ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography system. Executive Vice President For Academic Affairs Mark Biermann says the grant will "further advance the robust science-related fields at Valparaiso University" and allow for collaboration across multiple disciplines including chemistry, biochemistry and civil engineering.
The school says potential studies include assessing water quality in Lake Michigan and researching storm-water treatment technologies for pollution control.
