Governor Eric Holcomb has named Joe Hoage to serve as commissioner of the Indiana Department of Labor and Josh Martin to be chief data officer at the state’s Management Performance Hub. Hoage has served as general counsel for the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles since 2017. He also served as general counsel for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and as the state’s public access counselor. 

Martin is the interim chief data officer at the Indiana Management Performance Hub and has served as the agency’s chief of staff since 2015. He formerly served as program director of government efficiency and financial planning at the state Office of Management and Budget. 

“Joe and Josh are both dedicated servants who use their expertise to provide Hoosiers with great government service,” Gov. Holcomb said. “Joe uses his legal savvy to create common sense solutions, and Josh leverages data to address complex problems and improve the lives of Hoosiers. I’m excited to have both of these leaders at the helm.”

Hoage earned a bachelor’s degree from Franklin College and a master’s degree from Indiana University. Martin has a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a master’s from Indiana University. Hoage begins his new position on July 13, while Martin’s promotion is effective immediately.
