Goshen College to Install Solar Array

The panels will be installed on the roof of the college’s fitness center to provide fully-renewable energy to the Church-Chapel building.
The array will provide 277 kilowatts of power, which will offset the building’s electric bill, and those costs are expected to be fully recovered in about 10 years. 2011 Goshen College graduate David Lapp Jost started the project "Environmental sustainability is a natural priority for both Goshen College, which does so much to teach thoughtful stewardship, and for College Mennonite Church, which seeks to be a blessing in its community and honor our creator God in word and deed.” “In addition to saving both institutions tens of thousands of dollars annually for years to come, this project is a testament to deep shared values.”
Lapp Jost approached the college years ago about installing solar panels, but officials found the cost prohibitive. CMC fundraising, low solar prices, and the college’s efforts to consume less energy, have led to the project moving forward. Solcient Energy of Toledo, Ohio is scheduled to begin installing the panels in March.
