The U.S. Postal Service has reopened the Glen Park Post Office Station in Gary. The facility ceased operations in 2015 due to structural repairs needed for the building.
“We’re excited to be opening our doors again to the community,” Gary Postmaster Charlotte Jones said in a press release. "Retail services will be up and running and the Post Office box section will be fully operational."
The USPS says post office boxes have returned to the facility and existing customers are encouraged to visit the building by September 29 to renew their PO Boxes if they would like to have the same box number.
Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson says the reopening of the building is a win for the entire community.
"The reopening of the Glen Park Post Office brings back an important service to the south end of our city," said Freeman-Wilson. "In addition to prompter mail delivery, the residents of Gary again have an option as to where they can mail a package or pick up mail-or access other postal services."
