A Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology graduate and his wife have made another significant donation to the school. Mike and Linda Mussallem, who previously provided a $9 million gift to support the expanded student union, have now announced a $1.5 million donation to fund an adjacent pavilion.
The school says the pavilion will have seating for up to 50 people for outdoor dining and gatherings. It will include audio-visual equipment, sliding glass doors and plants on the roof. Indianapolis-based RATIO Architects designed the pavilion. Construction is set to begin this spring, with plans for it to be complete in time for homecoming in October.
Mike Mussallem is a 1974 chemical engineering alumnus. The Gary native is chairman and chief executive officer of California-based Edwards Lifesciences as well as a Rose-Hulman trustee.
The Terre Haute school dedicated the $25 million student union expansion in May. The two-year project involved expanding student lounge spaces and adding new outdoor patio and gathering spaces.
