Gift Establishes IU Endowed Chair

The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University has established an endowed chair following a $2 million gift from donor Scott Schurz. The gift establishes the Kinsey Institute Bicentennial Endowed Chair and will be used to support the institute’s research and education initiatives. The support includes expansion of existing research projects, pilot studies of sexological research and partnership programs with Indiana University schools and departments.
Schurz said he was inspired to give because "the Kinsey Institute is one of IU’s precious gems, and one that deserves our admiration and support. I want to make sure the institute maintains its prominence at IU and globally, and I hope this gift will provide the research team with the additional resources needed to tackle some of the most interesting and complex issues surrounding human sexuality today."
Schurz is chairman emeritus of Hoosier-Times, Inc. and has been publisher and editor-in-chief of the Bloomington Herald-Times, Bedford Times-Mail and other central Indiana newspapers. He was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame in 2003. Schurz’s gift coincides with the $3 billion For All: Indiana University Bicentennial Campaign and a portion of the gift will be matched.
