Gibson County OKs Economic Development Area

PRINCETON, Ind. – Since the opening of 1-69, Gibson County officials have been working diligently toward creating an Economic Development Area (EDA) which is the first-step in providing officials the tools needed in their efforts to land residential, commercial, and industrial developments along the new transcontinental highway. That process has now been completed with a unanimous vote by the Gibson County Redevelopment Commission. Last month, the Gibson County Commission unanimously approved designating the area around 1-69 as an EDA.
Gibson County Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Todd Mosby stated, “Our Commissioners have provided the foundation for future development. Now, we will turn our attention toward creating a TIF District. We could have worked toward creating the EDA and the TIF District at the same time, however, we felt we should take this process one step at a time. I commend our Commissioners for their diligent work and foresight to initiate this effort for the future betterment of Gibson County.”
Over the past several months meetings were held to inform the East Gibson School Corporation Board, the East Gibson Library Board, Town Council members representing incorporated towns located in the identified area, and a town hall meeting which was held on the Wood Memorial High / Jr. High campus. The Gibson County Commissioners led the successful efforts and were assisted by the Gibson County Economic Development Corporation.

The Gibson County Economic Development Corporation was formed in 2005 with a mission to coordinate, assist, and advise Gibson County in economic development activities.
