General Aluminum to close Huntington facility

Ohio-based General Aluminum Manufacturing Co. is planning to close its facility in Huntington. In a notice to the state, the company said the move will result in the layoffs of 62 employees.
General Aluminum did not provide a reason for the closure of the facility at 1345 Henry Street. Multiple requests from Inside INdiana Business for more information were not returned by deadline Wednesday.
The layoffs are scheduled to begin in phases on August 29, according to a WARN Notice filed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The affected workers are not represented by a union, and the layoffs are expected to be permanent. The company said it will provide COBRA benefits to the workers.
General Aluminum produces aluminum castings for both the automotive and non-automotive industries, according to its website.
The company still operates a manufacturing facility in the Steuben County town of Fremont, as well as locations in Ohio and Mexico.
