Gen Con, which wrapped up its four-day run in Indianapolis Sunday, is reporting record four-day badge sales for 2018. President David Hoppe calls the event an "enormous success," with the event boasting more than 60,000 unique attendees and an economic impact of more than $70 million.
The gaming convention also reported a 16 percent year-over-year increase in Saturday badge sales, and a 60 percent year-over-year increase for Sunday badge sales. Organizers also say this year’s event set a philanthropic record, raising more than $50,000 for Gen Con’s charity partners. Since moving to Indianapolis in 2003, Gen Con says the event has raised more than $300,000 for charity.
This year, Gen Con spread further into Lucas Oil Stadium, with an on-field experience that Hoppe previously told Inside INdiana Business would provide a "real wow factor." At the time, he said Lucas Oil Stadium would play a big role in the convention’s future growth.
Gen Con returns to Indianapolis August 1-4, 2019. The convention signed a contract in February to stay in Indianapolis through 2022.
