GARY, Ind. – The Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority Board voted 5-0 Monday to appoint Dan Vicari as the Airport’s interim director, filling the role BR Lane left at the end of March. Dan will also continue to serve as project manager of the Runway Expansion Project, streamlining and improving operations while also reducing Airport costs.
“Dan has done a great job managing the runway project,” said Chairman Stephen Mays. “He clearly has a good grasp of the activities going on at the airport, and I look forward to working with him to complete the expansion and pursue the goals outlined in the Airport’s Vision plan.”
The runway expansion is on track to be completed in June.
As part of continuing outreach efforts, the Airport will attend the upcoming Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) conference in Seattle from June 1-3. The JumpStart Air Service Development Conference begins with a full day of educational sessions followed by two days of airport-airline meetings. Airport partner, AvPorts, will represent the Airport and has confirmed meetings with four airlines at the conference.
“It’s important for the Airport to have a presence at the JumpStart conference,” said AvPorts President Ozzie Moore. “This is a key opportunity to network with airline route planning staff and create a foundation for future air service development at the airport.”
In its operational update, the Airport shared that April 2015 operations were up 30 percent over April 2014 operations. Overall, the airport has seen a total growth of 43 percent in 2015.
