Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson has announced the immediate resignation of Joe van Dyk, executive director of the Gary Redevelopment Commission. A.J. Bytnar, a previous city planner for Hobart, will succeed him.
Van Dyk will work with the city through September on a part-time basis to complete the City’s Comprehensive Plan update. He has worked for the city since 2012.
The city says Bytnar, who has also worked with Fishers’ economic development department, has experience coming from time at the real estate department of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, acting as city planner for Hobart and the Lake County Department of Planning and as director of planning and development for the city of Lowell .
“Joe has been an integral part of Team Gary for the past seven years,” said Mayor Freeman-Wilson in a news release. “He has been extremely effective in managing a number of economic development initiatives. As he leaves the city to experience new opportunities, I know he will do well.”
