Paws, Inc., also known as the world headquarters for the animated cat Garfield, says it will be moving out of its studio in Albany. Indiana Public Radio reports that employees of the company are transitioning to a work-from-home model.
Paws, Inc. opened in 1989 and held 60 employees. Director of Public Relations Kim Campbell Beasley told IPR that number is now cut in half. Because of new technology and other factors, the brick-and-mortar location no longer makes fiscal sense.
About 11 employees still work out of the Albany studio, but will leave the building by June.
Campbell Beasley told IPR that fans of Garfield have nothing to fear, the character has a full schedule with a new movie debuting this fall, a Garfield-themed children’s area at Six Flags in China, and a musical being licensed around the world.
“There’s a lot going on with the character. In that regard, nothing has changed. We’re still working hard, as we say, to take care of the cat.” Campbell Beasly told IPR.
