Funeral Services Set For Lugar

Services for former Indianapolis Mayor and U.S. Senator Richard Lugar will begin Tuesday in downtown Indianapolis. Lugar’s casket will be displayed at the Indiana Statehouse and Governor Eric Holcomb and Mayor Joe Hogsett will give remarks before laying wreaths in Lugar’s honor. Public viewings will be held through Wednesday morning.
Lugar passed away late last month. The following day, state and local officials joined former Lugar staff members and others at the Richard G. Lugar Plaza outside the City-County Building in downtown Indy to remember the former senator for his many contributions during his long political career.
The governor and mayor are expected to give their remarks shortly after noon Tuesday. The Statehouse rotunda will be open to the public to pay their respects to Lugar until sunset Tuesday. The public viewing will continue Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., when Lugar’s casket will be taken via motorcade to St. Luke’s Church in Indianapolis.
