‘Frozen Sandlot’ Coming to Kokomo

The city of Kokomo is bringing ice staking to a popular venue. Known as The Frozen Sandlot, the 60-foot by 90-foot staking rink will be located at Kokomo Municipal Stadium with ticket sales benefiting charity.

The city says local nonprofit Bridges Outreach will staff and operate the rink and keep the proceeds from ticket sales. A portion of the proceeds from concession sales will also benefit the nonprofit.

The Frozen Sandlot will run from December 5 through January 13. Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight says locating the skating rink at the stadium is beneficial on several fronts.

"This allows us to utilize Municipal Stadium in the off-season," Goodnight said in a news release. "Adding an amenity like ice skating makes the most of the stadium year round. We are excited to have new fun winter activity for families. I am confident that having Bridges Outreach working with us will make it a success."

Casey Cline with Bridges Outreach says the nonprofit will also integrate the rink with its job training program. Workers from the program will be employed at the rink.

"We talked to the city about some kind of job training program in the past," said Cline. "When the Mayor brought this opportunity to us, we saw it as a real positive in addition to being something great for the community."

Admission will be $10 for skaters, including skate rental, and $2 for non-skaters. You can learn more about The Frozen Sandlot by clicking here.

More than ever, we need strong, diverse community financial institutions

For almost a century, credit unions have been an integral part of the American financial landscape. During the Great Depression, as the U.S. financial system was faltering, people came together around the concept of cooperative community finance as an alternative solution. What resulted was an entirely different approach to consumer and business banking that operates in peaceful parallel with conventional banks of all sizes....
