The Cardinal Glass Industries subsidiary is the town’s largest employer. It is building an addition onto its 300,000 square-foot plant to make room for new rack processing technology and the relocation of its technical support department. The company, which has more than three dozen facilities nationwide, says the decision to grow in northeast Indiana is driven by increased national demand expected in new home construction.
Cardinal IG Director of Manufacturing Odin Clifton says "by bringing part of our glass manufacturing process in-house to our facility in Fremont, Cardinal IG will be better positioned to support rising demand in residential construction. With a strong work force that keeps growing here and a robust business climate, Indiana continues to be a great place for Cardinal IG to grow and thrive."
The company currently employs 300 at its Fremont operation. Town Council President Steve Brown says "they have enjoyed strong growth from the time they built their facility 20 years ago and we’re happy to support their continued growth in Fremont."
Last month, another Fremont employer, Michigan-based Cold Heading Co., announced plans to more than double its work force by adding as many as 30 jobs as part of a $12 million investment.
