The owner of Metaldyne BSM LLC has notified the state it is permanently closing its plant in Fremont.
Metaldyne is a subsidiary of Detroit-based American Axle & Manufacturing. The Steuben County manufacturer produces a variety of auto components, including connecting rods, transmission valve bodies, and crankshaft pulleys.
In a WARN notice to the state, Metaldyne said it is closing due to the “loss of viability and sustainability of the plant operations.”
The company says production workers will be laid off in late December. A few staff members will remain until the facility is permanently closed in June.
