Freedom Academy Inks Deal With Angola

Angola, Ind. — The City of Angola signed an agreement with the Freedom Academy at the City Council's September 3rd meeting. The agreement is for a recently acquired city-owned building at 306 West Mill Street. According to the agreement, use of the building by the Freedom Academy is limited to classrooms to conduct classes and courses, workshops, lectures, and hands-on instruction.
The goal of the classroom work is to allow students to master, enhance performance or earn various nationally recognized certifications involving manufacturing equipment and systems.
Mayor Hickman welcomed the Freedom Academy as a nice addition to the complex and a critical addition for the community’s economic development efforts. “We are happy to work with the Freedom Academy to bring more local training options to the citizens of Angola and Steuben County.” stated Mayor Hickman. Adding, “This will definitely benefit our existing employers.”
Freedom Academy is a private, not-for-profit workforce skills development organization that believes education is the key to economic freedom by providing high-quality, cost-effective education. Freedom Academy builds its reputation as “Not Your Ordinary Classroom” by providing practical and relevant instruction of outstanding quality. There are no admission requirements other than the desire to learn.
Anita Shepherd, Director of Client Services for the Freedom Academy is excited to get classes started next week. “We will begin with a Basic Electrical course but certainly see the opportunity to support expanded courses in the areas in greatest demand in Steuben County. We appreciate the partnership with Angola and look forward to forming other partnerships in the community.” stated Shepherd.
Steuben Education & Training (SET) and the Steuben County EDC have each pledged funds to assist in acquiring tables, chairs and classroom equipment. The inaugural class is schedule to begin on Tuesday, September 10th.
