Tokyo-based Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. is planning to cease operation of the Climate Control division its facility in Franklin. In a notice to the state, the company said the business will shut down at the end of the year, affecting more than 80 employees.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Climate Control manufactured compressors for car air conditioning systems at the facility. The company says it is ending operations “due to lack of sales and no future business.”
The layoffs are expected to begin at the end of March and continue in phases through the end of the year. The employees are not represented by a union and the layoffs are expected to be permanent.
The facility has also been producing turbochargers at in Franklin since May of 2015. The company says that division will continue its operation at the facility and is “continually evaluating and taking steps to drive success for the future.”
