Frankfort Mayor Continues Ambitious Agenda
The youngest mayor in Indiana continues efforts to boost economic development in his city. Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes says one of the key accomplishments during his more than two years in office is the opening of a downtown Ivy Tech Community College campus. He also says a key part of his economic development plan is an annexation initiative that would extend the city to I-65. During an appearance on Inside INdiana Business Television, McBarnes also touched his overall development strategy. The city's economic development plan is being put together with planning grant funds from the Community Development Block Grant Program.
McBarnes says it is pushing an “open for business approach” by securing current jobs, strengthening industries and looking for new employers with a strong focus on job creation.
It also includes an increased effort to work with the Indiana Economic Development Corp. to ensure Frankfort is on the radar when the state is seeking locations for new businesses.
McBarnes was elected in November 2011. He was 23 at the time.
