Franciscan Health Lafayette plans to build $25.7 million emergency facility

Franciscan Health Lafayette on Wednesday announced its plans to build a freestanding emergency department in West Lafayette.
The proposed emergency medical facility will be located on the same grounds as the Franciscan Health hospital, at the corner of US 52/231 and Cumberland Ave.
The full-service ED, a project valued at $25.7 million, is expected to staff a team of nearly 40 full-time co-workers, according to a news release. The release also noted that the ED will offer 24/7 access to emergency care in a community-based location.
“This project is a great chance for us to expand our presence in the Greater Lafayette area,” said Terry Wilson, president and CEO of Franciscan Health Western Indiana.
Included in the staff will be board-certified emergency physicians, and the facility will be equipped with imaging such as CT scans, X-rays and lab services.
Construction is expected to begin late this year, with a goal to complete construction by the end of 2027, the health system said.
Tony Veneziano, a spokesperson for Franciscan Health, noted that the ED will be located just south of the Franciscan OrthoIndy Surgery Center, which broke ground roughly a year ago and remains under construction.
“As West Lafayette continues to grow, there’s a greater need for emergency services close to where many people live,” Wilson said. “With this new, modern emergency department, we’ll be able to improve access to emergency care in this growing market, making it a valuable extension of our healthcare ministry.”
