Franciscan Alliance makes leadership appointments

Mishawaka-based Franciscan Alliance Inc. has appointed a handful of executives into new leadership roles at the Catholic health care system.
Dr. Gerald Maloney has been appointed chief medical officer. Tim Murphy has been named vice president of strategy. Michael Englehart has been appointed senior vice president for Franciscan Physician Network/Specialty Physicians of Illinois LLC and Franciscan Post-Acute Services. Additionally, Dr. Joseph Schnecker has been appointed chief medical information officer.
“As we celebrate the remarkable careers of our retiring leaders, we also look to the future with great confidence,” Franciscan Alliance President and CEO Kevin Leahy said in a news release. “The new appointments to our leadership team reflect our commitment to continuity, innovation and excellence. These individuals bring a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives that will help guide our ministry through its next chapter of growth and transformation.”
Maloney assumes the CMO position following decades at Geisenger Health in Danville, Pennsylvania, where he spent the past 19 years as a physician executive and his last eight as chief medical officer. He also served as the associate dean for clinical affairs at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.
His Franciscan Alliance appointment follows the 2024 death of Dr. Al Tomchaney.
Murphy assumes his vice president of strategy position following his role as Franciscan’s COO/CFO for Franciscan Physician Network, Specialty Physicians of Illinois LLC and Franciscan Post-Acute Services. Murphy came to Franciscan from Deloitte Consulting in Nashville, Tennessee.
Murphy takes on the role following the retirement of Jay Brehm.
Englehart assumes Murphy’s former role at Franciscan. Englehart is a former CEO of Presence Health, a Catholic health system in Illinois that was acquired by Ascension in 2018. Most recently, he served as cardiovascular service line president at St. Louis-based Mercy Health.
Schnecker, Franciscan’s medical director of information services, replaces Dr. Dick Roskman as chief medical information officer. Schnecker joined Franciscan in 2001 during his family medicine residency in Beech Grove, Indiana, and returned in 2010 as associate director of the residency program. He later helped establish the physician advisor program before joining the information services team.
Franciscan Alliance operates hospitals and has physician offices in Indiana and Illinois.
