Boone County, Ind. — The Community Foundation of Boone County has awarded $213,100 in scholarships and $178,688 in community grants. 48 Boone County high school students received support to attend college from 41 scholarship funds at the Community Foundation. Community grants were awarded from the Community Foundation’s unrestricted Community Endowment, the Jay Martin Underprivileged Children’s Fund and five donor advised funds.
“We are so pleased to support these outstanding organizations making a lasting impact on our community,” said Community Foundation President/CEO Jennifer Pendleton. “The generous donors to our endowed funds make it possible for us to grant dollars back to the community year after year. We, and the organizations we support, are grateful for their generosity.”
Grants from the Community Endowment include:
Boys & Girls Club of Zionsville: $18,000
For the installation of portable classroom units, ADA ramps and decks for additional educational space at Boys & Girls Club of Zionsville – West.
Humane Society for Boone County: $1,000
Winners of the December 2013 Facebook contest grant.
Indy Reads: Boone County: $6,000
To support the implementation of a literacy coalition in Boone County.
Love INC of Boone County, Inc.: $10,000
To expand the Pathfinder Ministry, a program which provides one-on-one mentoring, encouraging people in need to explore all of their options, leading to positive changes that will help them become less dependent upon government and community resources.
Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding: $9,500
To complete the building of an indoor arena and sensory garden, further enriching the lives of individuals with physical, cognitive and/or behavioral challenges through equine assisted therapies and activities. This grant included support from the Easterday Family Fund.
United Way of Central Indiana – Boone County Leadership: $1,425
To fund 6 partial scholarships for employees of nonprofit organizations in Boone County to participate in the 2014-2015 Boone County leadership class.
Zionsville Center for Art, History & Genealogy: $10,000
A grant of $5,000 plus a matching grant of $5,000 to support operating expenses at the SullivanMunce Cultural Center.
Grants from the Jay Martin Underprivileged Children’s Fund include:
Lebanon Community of Shalom: $12,000.00 over two years
To provide funding for 400 children to receive two weeks’ worth of sack lunches in 2014 and one week’s worth in 2015 through the “Shalom Kids’ Sack Lunch” program.
Boone County Child Advocacy Center: $7,000.00
To provide funding for two prevention programs in Boone County Schools: Stewards of Children and Smart Steps.
Lebanon Area Boys & Girls Club SCORE Mentoring Program: $2,000.00
To support a database tracking system art and literacy programming for May – November, 2014.
Witham Family YMCA: $2,500.00
To provide funding for Neutral Ground programming: monthly teen nights and after school extracurricular activities, including equipment and supplies.The following grants were made from donor advised funds:
CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions: $9,000 from the Avelena Fund of the William Higgins Trust
To support the Meals & More program, providing appetizing, nutritious meals each week day to Boone County seniors with home delivered meals, at neighborhood meal sites, and through the food voucher program.
Indiana Women In Need: $5,000 from Anne’s Angel of Hope Fund
Facilitates professional services to meet non-medical needs of women and men undergoing breast cancer treatment in Boone County.
Indy Reads: Boone County, The Arc of Greater Boone County and the Lebanon Public Library:
$85,263 from The Pete and Henrietta Hudson Family Charitable Fund
Renewed support for the “Literacy is our Legacy” grant initiative – an ongoing, collaborative effort to promote, encourage and inspire literacy in Boone County.
