Fort Wayne to Open Shelter in Former Rescue Mission Space

The city of Fort Wayne says the recently vacated Rescue Mission shelter will continue to serve a similar mission, helping those in need.
Our partners at WPTA-TV report the city purchased the building through the redevelopment commission and intends to use it as an overnight shelter for homeless, single women.
The service begins Monday.
Last week, the Rescue Mission moved into its new space, which consolidates services from two buildings.
The city says the building will serve as a warming center during the day for men, women and families. But at night, only single women will be allowed.
According to the TV station, St. Joseph Missions and Just Neighbors Interfaith Homeless Network were named as lead agencies for the warming center and overnight shelter.
