Fort Wayne to Kick Off Next Riverfront Phases (Rendering of phase two of the Riverfront Fort Wayne project provided by the city of Fort Wayne.)

The design team for the second and third phases of the Riverfront Fort Wayne project will Thursday begin its work. Philadelphia-based DAVID RUBIN Land Collective will begin the effort with focus groups of residents on topics such as downtown living, youth involvement and historic preservation.

The city says Riverfront Fort Wayne Phases II and III will focus on private development and include the delivery of three key items: a master plan for the Riverfront Fort Wayne neighborhood, analysis and recommendations for infrastructure to serve new development and manage the floodway, and schematic designs and construction documents for additional public improvements along the edge of the river.

The landscape architecture and urban design firm was chosen for the project in August. The city has not released an estimated time frame for the beginning of construction on the next two phases.

Meantime, Visit Fort Wayne says Riverfront Fort Wayne Phase 1 will soon be complete. The $20 million Promenade Park, which has been under construction since June 2017, is expected to open in June 2019.

Promenade Park will feature the Compass Pavilion, which will serve as the anchor venue for events, as well as a tree canopy trail, amphitheater, and a kid’s canal. It will also include the sculpture Convergence, which was designed by artist Linda Howard and chosen for the park in August 2017.
