Fort Wayne to Break Ground on Boutique Hotel

Officials in Fort Wayne will Friday break ground on more hotel space in the city’s downtown. The $28 million, five-story boutique hotel will feature nearly 125 rooms, along with retail, restaurant and entertainment space.

Plans for the hotel were first announced in November 2017. The project is being developed by Barbara Bradley Baekgaard, co-founder of Fort Wayne-based Vera Bradley (Nasdaq: VRA), and Oregon-based Provenance Hotels.

The hotel was designed by Elevatus Architecture in Fort Wayne and is being built by The Hagerman Group, which has offices in Fort Wayne and Fishers. The project is expected to be complete in late 2020.

The groundbreaking ceremony will include remarks from:

  • Barbara Bradley Baekgaard
  • Bashar Wali, President of Provenance Hotels
  • Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry
  • Danielle McGrath, Senior Vice President, Indiana Economic Development Corporation
  • Nancy Townsend, Director of Fort Wayne Redevelopment
  • Allen County Commissioner Nelson Peters
  • Jim Cook, President of the Allen County Capital Improvement Board
  • John Urbahns, President of Greater Fort Wayne Inc.
  • Cory Miller, Principal of Elevatus Architecture
  • Dan O’Connell, President of Visit Fort Wayne

We must not fund our own destruction

We must not fund our own destruction

If the headline sounds ominous, that’s by design. This is not hyperbole. The United States is funding numerous Chinese companies—many with ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Chinese military. This is the very country which, by all accounts, is posing the most serious threat to our national security in our lifetime....
