Nearly 20 teams from throughout the country are slated to participate in the first tournament at a Fort Wayne facility dedicated to curling. The Fort Wayne Curling Club's Summit City Open begins this afternoon and runs through Sunday. March 14, 2014

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Fort Wayne Curling Club is hosting the first ever bonspiel (curling parlance for tournament) at its brand new facility dedicated to the Olympic sport of curling. The inaugural Summit City Open features 17 teams from across the country, including players from the following clubs:

-Portland, OR

-Kalamazoo, MI

-Chicago, IL

-Indianapolis, IN

-Charlotte, NC

-Cleveland, OH

-Potomac, MD

-Binghamton, NY

-Columbus, OH

-South Bend, IN

-Detroit, MI

-Fort Wayne, IN

The new Fort Wayne Curling Club facility is located at 3674 N. Wells St in Fort Wayne, the site of the old Nickel’s Bakery Thrift Shop. The facility opened on January 17th and features a warm viewing area and three sheets of curling ice.

The times of the tournament are:

-Friday, 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm

-Saturday, 8:00 am – midnight

-Sunday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

The finals are scheduled at 2:00 pm and will feature a bagpiper leading the finalists onto the ice.

Spectators are welcome to watch the event for free.
