Fort Wayne Riverfront Project Nets $100K Gift

Fort Wayne-based nonprofit The Waterfield Foundation Inc. has awarded a grant aimed at the Riverfront Fort Wayne redevelopment project. The $100,000 grant to the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne will go to a fund related to the project.

The grant was combined with a 50 percent match from Lilly Endowment Inc. for a total donation of $150,000. 

"The Community Foundation is extremely grateful to the Waterfield Foundation for this very generous gift," said David Bennett, executive director of the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne. "Riverfront development is an exciting project that will help us to continue the success we have enjoyed in Allen County and all of northeast Indiana."

The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne has set aside $4 million for the project, the full scope of which is expected to take decades to complete. In late November, the city announced the engineering and design team for a promenade that will be built as part of the project.

Richard Waterfield, chairman of The Waterfield Foundation, says a thriving downtown Fort Wayne is critical to the vibrancy and image of the city. He says the riverfront development will be a major factor in moving the city’s image forward.
