Bob Kennedy, who has served in the role since 2007, will remain with the city through the end of November.
Kennedy has worked with the city for 33 years, previously serving as deputy director of Public Works and City Utilities, street commissioner and accountant and purchasing agent for the City of Fort Wayne Street Department. The city says it has seen record amounts of investments in neighborhood infrastructure improvements, including $100 million in investment in the last three years, during Kennedy’s tenure as director.
Among his accomplishments in the role, Kennedy was named public works director of the year by American City & County magazine in 2009.
"Bob has given his entire professional career to this point to the City of Fort Wayne and he did so in a professional manner and always put residents first," said Henry. "I admire his commitment to providing excellent customer service, and I appreciate his passion for ensuring we have a safe and efficient transportation system. His leadership has helped make Fort Wayne a point of destination for jobs, great neighborhoods and desirable quality of life amenities."
City Engineer Shan Gunawardena will serve as interim director until a permanent successor for Kennedy is named.
