The director of the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation department has announced his retirement. Al Moll, who has led the department since 2005, will leave the position March 30.

During his tenure, the department has seen an expansion of neighborhood outreach programs, increased venues, new parks and expansions at existing parks such as Salomon Farm, Foster, Lakeside and McMillen parks. Most recently, Moll led the first phase of the Riverfront Fort Wayne project, which is now underway.

"Al has been a tremendous public servant with a commitment to providing excellent services to our community,” said Mayor Tom Henry. “I appreciate and admire Al’s ability to develop and implement innovative initiatives that have had a lasting and meaningful impact in Fort Wayne. We’ll miss his experience, expertise and leadership and wish him well.”

The Fort Wayne Board of Park Commissioners has begun searching for Moll’s successor.
