The Fort Wayne Common Council has given preliminary approval of tax incentives for the nearly $18 million Hampton Inn & Suites, with final approval possibly coming by the end of the month.
The 10-year tax abatement would save developer White Lodging Services Corp. more than $3 million. When the project was first announced in September, the city said the hotel could be complete as early as summer 2019.
According to documents filed with the city, the project would create 23 full-time and six part-time jobs with an average salary of approximately $33,000 per year. The hotel will be located across from the Grand Wayne Center and next to the Courtyard Fort Wayne Downtown, which was also developed by White Lodging.
The council will hold a public hearing on the incentives proposal January 23. Our partners at WPTA-TV report the project still requires approval from the Fort Wayne Plan Commission.
