Fort Wayne Facility Benefits From Big Contract

A portion of the work from a massive military contract secured by Raytheon Co. will be completed in Fort Wayne. The more than $1 billion deal with the U.S. Navy involves designing, building and integrating its new Next Generation Jammer technology.
The Allen County facility will perform more than 4 percent of the contract.
The new technology will replace a more than 40-year-old system. Raytheon describes the NGJ capabilities as "advanced electronic attack technology that combines high-powered, agile, beam-jamming techniques with cutting-edge, solid-state electronics."
Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems President Rick Yuse says "this is a significant milestone for electronic warfare. NGJ is a smart pod that provides today’s most advanced electronic attack technology, one that can easily be adapted to changing threat environments. That level of sophistication provides our warfighters with the technological advantage required to successfully prosecute their mission and return home safely."
The contract is expected to be complete by the end of 2020. In all, it includes 15 NGJ model pods and 14 NGJ aero-mechanical test pods. Other contractors involved in the work are in California, Mississippi, Texas, Virginia, Massachusetts and Arizona.
