Former Milano Inn Refurbished as LaGrotte Square

Subscribe NowSouth Bend-based Holladay Properties has renovated the former Milano Inn in Indianapolis and renamed the $4.5M development LaGrotte Square. The name is a tribute to the family who owned and operated several businesses along South College Avenue, including the Milano Inn, for decades.
The iconic restaurant was opened by Mary and Joe Modaffari in 1934, and was saved from destruction by Leo LaGrotte in the early 1980’s. The LaGrotte family owned and operated the restaurant, including by his daughters Tina and Gina, till the final day of business on Dec. 31, 2016.
“Central Indiana has known the Milano Inn for close to a century as a place for friends and family to gather while enjoying delicious food and drink,” said Dan Phair, SVP and Partner at Holladay Properties. “It was important to Holladay Properties to keep that legacy going by preserving the original buildings that made up the Milano Inn and the additions that have grown the building over the years."
Current occupants of the new space include the relocated Holladay Properties Indianapolis headquarters, Barre Code Fitness Studio along with a sushi/ramen bar. One 1,900 square foot retail/office suite remains available.
Holladay expects to break ground on roughly $100 million of new office and multi-family housing developments in the Indianapolis market this year.
