Hogsett says the primary focus of the new appointees will be neighborhood redevelopment, community engagement and fiscal stability.
Former Lt. Governor Kathy Davis was tapped by Hogsett to "lead an effort to analyze and reform the city’s financial and information systems." Hogsett says Davis will work to identify efficiencies and cost savings in order to reduce the city’s structural budget deficit.
"Kathy has dedicated her career to serving the public and improving the way government works," said Hogsett. "With our city facing daunting fiscal challenges in the years ahead, I am honored that my friend has agreed to offer her unparalleled expertise and unique skills to the people of Indianapolis once more."
Davis was the first woman to become lieutenant governor of Indiana. She previously served as Indiana’s state budget director, secretary of the Family and Social Services Administration and city controller.
Hogsett also appointed Dr. David Hampton, senior pastor at Light of the World Church, as deputy mayor of neighborhood engagement. Hampton will lead an effort to improve community outreach and communication along with connecting neighborhoods with key services.
Jeff Bennett was selected to serve deputy mayor of community development. Hogsett’s office says he will work to restructure and coordinate city departments to better serve neighborhoods. Bennett has 20 years of experience working in and with neighborhoods and Indiana nonprofit organizations.
