The first woman to pilot and command a U.S. spacecraft will Wednesday evening speak at the University of Evansville. Eileen Collins will discuss her career and the future of space travel during the university’s Patricia H. Snyder Lecture.

The lecture will take place at 7:00 p.m. in Eykamp Hall on the Evansville campus. It is free and open to the public.

Collins became the first female to pilot an American spacecraft during the Discovery shuttle flight in 1995. She became the first female commander on the Columbia shuttle flight in 1999 and also commanded Discovery’s "Return to Flight" mission in 2005. In all, Collins logged 872 hours in space.

UE says Collins will speak about her early years in the U.S. Air Force to her experiences with NASA and the "valuable insights learned from both her successes and failures." You can connect to more about the lecture by clicking here.
