First Merchants Bank has promoted Carrie Valek to senior vice president and director of consumer banking. Valek will be responsible for the leadership, performance and strategic direction of the consumer bank. She most recently served as director of retail sales. She will concentrate on talent management, strategic sales management, executive leadership and financial management. Valek previously was senior vice president of retail banking for Indiana Bank and Trust Company. She also worked as a regional manager of retail banking for National City Bank. Valek holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and a master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.
