The school says the money will support the university’s arts, athletics and campus life programs, as well as scholarships and the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
IU East Chancellor Kathy Cruz-Uribe calls the funding one of the largest corporate gifts in the university’s history.
In recognition of the gift, IU East plans to rename the Whitewater Hall Community Room to the First Bank Richmond Community Room with a dedication ceremony to take place early next year. The university has also renamed the annual Red Wolf Classic, featuring men’s and women’s basketball, as the First Bank Richmond Classic.
"IU East has seen tremendous growth over the past few years in enrollment, campus size and community involvement," said Garry Kleer, chief executive officer of First Bank Richmond. "They provide a consistent pipeline of good talent who are committed to our region. They add to the fabric of life in our community through educational programming, cultural enrichment opportunities and activities such as their athletics program. First Bank is proud to be a part of their continued success and advancement."
First Bank has given nearly $700,000 to IU East since 1987. Most recently, the bank contributed $150,000 in 2016 to support the university’s new Student Events and Activities Center.
