The proposals from Indianapolis-based The Finish Line Inc. (Nasdaq: FINL) and a subsidiary of Land O’ Lakes Inc. could receive final approval September 16.
In total, the companies say the investments would help retain just over 1,000 Marion County jobs.
The Finish Line is looking to pump $1.3 million into technology upgrades at its headquarters to better streamline growing digital sales and distribution operations. Plans involve boosting its nearly 1,000-person work force by 100 within around five years. In addition to its online presence, the company has more than 660 "bricks and mortar" locations in 47 states.
WinField Solutions LLC’s $12 million proposal involves a new Sure-Tech research and development facility near the former site of the Indianapolis International Airport on the west side of Marion County. Approval may not seal the deal, as the company is mulling other locations including Hendricks County, New England and Minnesota, where its parent company is headquartered. The crop protection, seed marketing and professional products technology company has two dozen workers at its current Indy operation and still needs full City-County Council approval before plans could move on the the commission later this month.
